The life and times of Gutzon Borglum, sculptor of Mount Rushmore. The largest case in point being the investigation Borglum conducted into a conspiracy concerning US aviation development and WWI. With as much detail as is prevelant throughout the book, I found the fogginess of this event disappointing.

Historians Howard Shaff and Audrey Karl Shaff spent seven years retracing the steps of Gutzon Borglum and writing his definitive biography. His works are found in parks and squares in many US cities. His Seated Lincoln in Newark, NJ is outstanding sculpture, and Borglum nearly got the commission to do the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. This book takes us through his art, but also through his incredible political associations.

Gutzon Borglum was an American artist and sculptor famous for creating Mt. Rushmore, a carving on Stone . Rushmore, a carving on Stone Mountain near Atlanta and much more. He was born in 1867 in St. Charles, Idaho. He graduated from Harvard Technical College. In 1908, Borglum won a competition for a statue of the Civil War General Philip Sheridan to be placed in Sheridan Circle in Washington, . At the unveiling of this sculpture, President Theodore Roosevelt declared that it was "first rate". Borglum sculpted numerous statues and pieces that are located all over the world
